Help Me Be a Rock Star- a sign language & disability friendly event

Bun gasit!

Hello!

On June 30, 2019 at the Expirat Club in Bucharest took place the Help Me Be a Rock Star concert, a premiere event for Romania, accessible and adapted for people with disabilities. The event happened during the day, starting at 16:00 hour, so even the childrens could enjoy it. The organization was at the highest level for this concert to be a “disability friendly”, providing hearing aids, sensory toys, changing diapers area, parking for baby strollers and bikes, accessibility bar for wheelchair users, assisted therapy animals (4 volunteers with 4 puppies that brought happiness to children and adults), medical staff, volunteer team, signs to points of interest. No bright effects were used, the volume of music was low and access was free for people with disabilities and their companions.

On the stage were present: Florin Mandru, a former competitor at the Voice of Romania show who is in a wheelchair, Mani Gutau from the “Urma” band and “The Mono Jacks” band. Along with these artists, I was also present on the stage and translated into the sign language the songs played for the nearly 60 hearing impaired audience of a total of 200! The atmosphere was amazing and the public’s reaction was impressive, for the deaf people being the first concert in our country where they could participate and feel the music, so that was an absolute PREMIERE for Romania. It was perhaps one of the most important days of their life but also of my life because I succeeded once again to bring SOUND into a SILENT world! For about 4 hours we lived together magical moments and we enjoyed them, feeling like we were in a big family and everything was so beautiful, as if we were living the same dream all and did’t want to wake up from it. We’ve broken down physical and mental barriers together and started the NORMALITY!

Many thanks to the organizers for this exceptional initiative, to the Association for Therapy and Assisted Animals in Bucharest for puppy therapy, thanks to the numerous audience of disability people, to the artists who understood that the music does not take into account any barrier, to the volunteer team and to the Expirat Club, our host on this wonderful day!

I hope that in the future there will be many such events accessible to deaf people both in Bucharest and in the big cities in my country, and I will be present every time, I will be there on stage to bring music to their world in the world of silence. The first step has already been made and I can’t wait wait for long-term collaborations! Thank you, all!
